Strain edges Meyer for Elks tournament title

Strain, who has three wins in five outings at the Jamestown course, beat
"It was very intimidating," Strain said of going head-to-head against the former Jimmie standout Meyer. "I heard the other day he shot a 62 out here. That's absolutely insane. He's a very, very good player."
It took a big-time birdie putt to finally end the 20-hole showdown.
"I made a putt from about 25-feet away, a big bender to win it," said Strain, who won the Jimmies' season-opening meet at the country club on
Strain's game is suited for the smallish, but difficult country club track.
"The thing about this course is that it's shorter and that benefits me," said the

Strain advanced with a 3 and 2 win over Sedler, another former Jimmie, who also starred in basketball at the college.

Strain, who is double-majoring in financial planning/wealth management and business administration, didn't play a ton of tournament golf over the summer, but came into the season in fine form.
He made the elite 8 at the 90th annual The Birchmont Golf Tournament, a top amateur tournament held in
"I just like to call it a hot streak and I want to ride it out as long as I can," Strain said of his steady play. "I try not to think about it too much. I just want to stay steady and consistent and hopefully keep making improvements in my game."
