Triano explained that he still needs to pump about 6 inches of water from the basement before they could have someone look at the boiler, which was hot when the frigid water flooded in.
He doesn't know the extent of the damage, or if his insurance will cover it, Triano said. The business cannot afford the repairs without the insurance and would have to shutter the doors, he said.
Empire Cleaners, which was started in 1933 by the Pachence brothers, employs 11 people. Triano's father, Raymond, took over the business in 1987, and Nicholas said he recently stepped in for his father.

"It looks like it's on our side," Cahalan said.
The authority has had some leaks in the last couple weeks, he said, but none have been major. Most of the frozen lines have been inside homes, Cahalan said.
