Blue Rock Fire Company Good At Retaining Volunteers, Millersville Council Learns

Blue Rock, which serves both the borough and

The company also has a great record of volunteer retention through family-oriented activities, such as bowling events and Easter egg hunts, where families feel compensated for the sacrifices of an unpaid firefighter.
"All the members realize it's everybody's job," Hagelgans said.

Instead of traditional fundraisers, Hagelgans said Blue Rock looks at where they can save money, such as workers' compensation insurance.
Of the 130 members, only about 80 require the coverage of "active" members. Hagelgans is shopping for lower rates for those members in strictly administrative positions.

Lastowski, who serves on the finance committee, summarized the report by stating the borough took in a little bit more money and spent a little bit less money than planned.
