Burbank City Council approves increase in its salary

Those were all changes the council had asked for last month when they approved a 6.5% raise for City Atty.
The change also eliminated the portion of the employee pension contribution, or 4% of a council member's salary, the city was paying into the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the three council members who opted to receive state pension benefits. They will now pay the full 8% employee contribution, somewhat offsetting their raise.

"You can see that we're trying to get our employees physically fit," he said, after reading several definitions of the term wellness. "That's why I'm asking my colleagues ... just to not be so restrictive with the definition of wellness and allow maybe a nutrition program ... exercise program ... or even ... offset 50% of a gymnasium cost."
Talamantes said his own medical insurance pays for physical exams already and questioned the point of having "a perk if nobody uses it." Even after expanding what qualifies for reimbursement, he said, council members don't have to use the benefit unless they want to.
