"I cleaned this house inside and out, three times this week," Benegasi said, adding that he went out in the morning to a dollar store at a plaza to buy more cleaner.
The bag with the cleaner in it was still sitting inside a back room of the house, he said.
Benegasi said he also had done all of his laundry, which was in the basement. He was hoping that if his clean clothes had any smoke or water in them, he could rewash them and save them, he said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation.
