CBS Detroit reported that the driving simulator required participants to send and receive text messages while engaging in everyday tasks such as obeying speed limits, traffic signals and staying safe distances from other vehicles, pedestrians and other bystanders.
According to the article, young adults using the driving simulator reported missing traffic signals and striking pedestrians. Teen drivers were asked to sign a pledge to avoid texting while driving after participating in the study.
