The company claims to sell insurance plans to eligible homeowners for unexpected repairs. There are several housing units that don't apply, including properties for commercial use and multi-unit dwellings. The company's plan proposes it would cover certain costs associated with damage caused by wear and tear, but not damage caused by an accident or negligence.
"Customers rarely have a problem in the area that would be covered" in the insurance that is being advertised, said
It is the customer's responsibility to check out the details of the insurance proposal, because the water district does not have any relationship with the insurance company, he said.
Local officials recommend that consumers review the water service line coverage details to be sure they understand the conditions under which the service plan applies. They also advise consumers to contact their insurance companies to determine if they need water line insurance, and to do some research on the company before they commit to buying the insurance.
