PracticeLink Survey Finds Physicians Lack Education About Employment Contracts and Negotiations
PR Web |
The survey, conducted by the PracticeLink Physician Relations Team, found that 31 percent of physician respondents didn't plan to seek a skilled health care attorney's counsel in review of their employment contracts.
The majority of respondents also stated they feel they need more education about several specific areas of their contracts:
• 67% said contractual terms
• 60% gap/tail insurance
• 55% ownership/partnership terms
• 55% restrictive covenants and non-solicitation clauses
• 50% benefits (i.e. health, dental, malpractice insurance, etc.).
Though physicians complete rigorous training to learn the clinical aspects of their jobs, they rarely receive substantial training on the business aspect of their careers, including negotiations of legal contracts.
In the Contracts and Compensation Issue,
Taking the time to have an experienced health care law professional review an employment contract can go a long way in helping physicians fully understand what their employer expects.
