The burglar went to the kitchen, got a butcher's knife and pried open the door to the office, where he tried to remove the restaurant's safe.
"He moved it about 10 or 12 inches," Kauffman said. "I don't know how he did it. That safe weighs about 900 pounds."
He didn't get anything from the burglary, she said. Insurance will cover the damage to the restaurant and replacement of the computer, she said.
"This restaurant's been here 15 years," said Kauffman, who bought it two and a half years ago, "and it had never been broken into."
