Fejeran, along with four other special agents from HSI Honolulu, 10 special agents from HSI Atlanta, and five each from HSI Boston, HSI Los Angeles, HSI Newark, HSI New Orleans and HSI New York, was deployed to the facility to support ERO with the security.
HSI special agents are assigned to one of two 13-hour shifts to cover the facility 24 hours.
Some of their duties include: perimeter security, controlling vehicle access and speed, ensuring children are safe when outside, checking credentials of people entering the facility, watching contractors to insure they leave nothing dangerous on the facility. They conduct safety patrols to ensure gates, fences and the grounds are free of hazards.

Fejeran, who is a member of HSI's EMT program, assessed the child and took the necessary medical intervention to clear and maintain the toddler's airway while HSI and ERO deportation officers kept residents clear of the situation. Fejeran and HSI special agent Siave Iafeta, also of HSI Honolulu, then transported the toddler to the dispensary for further medical treatment.
Before he departed from the center at the end of August, Fejeran said he saw the little girl again at the Family Residential Facility.
"It was good to see her walking around and playing with the other children," said Fejeran. "She appeared to be doing fine."
Fejeran said he and the HSI and ERO agents and officers have also had opportunities to interact with the resident population, particularly with the boys who have been taught American football by the agents and are choosing it over soccer, at least while he was serving at the facility.
