Baluski, 34, woke up before his alarm and started his morning by heading to the bathroom and sending his girlfriend a "good morning" text message. He lay back down on the couch to sneak in a few extra winks until his alarm went off.
Then came a much different wake-up call, courtesy of an errant box truck that lost its brakes.
"It was like a freight train hit my house or a bomb went off," Baluski said. "I'm laying on the couch, I look up, I see the front of a truck right through my door."

Heller, 30, was getting her children ready for school when it happened. She went in to get the car seat for one of her children when she heard a loud boom coming from Baluski's residence.
"I looked around, and there was a truck in Joe's house," she said.
Initially, Heller did not realize that Baluski was in the house at the time of the crash.
"All I thought about was just getting to my phone and calling 911."
Heller said she understood the truck driver veered toward the house to avoid her vehicle, where she was getting her children in to go to school.
Baluski got some clothes on, and by that time, he said emergency crews had arrived. He was advised to get out of the house, as the impact from the truck had pushed the building off its foundation.
Baluski said his father, Harry, owned the house. Baluski said the code enforcement officer condemned the house.
Baluski watched as his father tore the house down with a backhoe on Wednesday afternoon. He said he had renters' insurance that could put him in a hotel room if needed, and added that he has family nearby.
As Baluski watched the house come down, he said no one was hurt.
"It does stink, but it could have been a lot worse," Baluski said.
