She continued attacking a little more than five minutes later.
"We knew going into this game we really wanted to use our speed and take it on the move," Buttinger said. "I think we did a really good job with that."
The Nittany Lions tacked on another insurance goal early in the second half thanks to
Licata and the Penn State defense made the margin hold, despite pressure from the Cavaliers. Virginia finished with a 10-7 edge in penalty corners, including 6-2 in the second half.
Through two games, the Nittany Lions have not allowed a score off 16 penalty corners.
"Our corner defense was awesome and obviously Kylie did a great job," Morett-Curtiss said.
The Nittany Lions continue the tough early season schedule on Saturday against defending national champion Connecticut. The No. 3 Huskies knocked off No. 14 Northwestern in their season opener.
