Aug. 30--Sherry Bassin had a bit more to say on Friday about the potential sale of the Erie Otters franchise.
In response to an Erie Times-News article published Friday, Bassin said he hasn't received formal offers from the two undisclosed groups of investors interested in purchasing the franchise. Bassin has said one of the groups is based in Erie.
"It's nothing more than discussions," said Bassin, Otters managing partner and general manager. "Nothing (has) advanced past the discussion stage."
Meanwhile, Bassin is focused on his team heading into today's 5 p.m. preseason opener against the Mississauga Steelheads at Erie Insurance Arena, which serves as the Otters' lone exhibition game at home.
Most of the Otters' 13 returning veterans, including frontline center Connor McDavid and goaltender Devin Williams, aren't expected to play, as club officials want to evaluate young players in game situations. Center Kyle Pettit (knee surgery) isn't cleared for contact. Winger Travis Wood (sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee) is out four to six weeks. Defenseman Travis Dermott missed Friday's workouts with a sore hand.
