Milne had risen through the ranks to become president and chief executive of
Hardy, a mother of three sons, devoted dog owner and former horsewoman, was diagnosed with ALS five years ago. Her monthly column for our newspaper, "Not to Worry," sums up her positive approach to life.
"The biggest changes occurred the first few years. Within a four-month period, I gave up my job, quit driving and moved from my walker to a wheelchair. I lost the ability to sing, laugh and eat. Those were some of the biggest painful changes," she wrote in June. "To cover my bases, I offer this at least once daily: May changes be small, help my spirit remain bright and let me help pALS in need." The Ice Bucket Challenge is for Hardy and all pALS -- people with ALS.
