The U.S. leads the pack in the percentage of older adults who have trouble paying their medical bills.
The American College, the nation's oldest accredited institution devoted to insurance, will award the 2015 Huebner Gold Medal to Dr. Larry Barton at a special ceremony on Friday, December 5 at Gotham Hall in New York City.
The award is named after Dr. Solomon S. Huebner, a Professor at The Wharton School who started The American College in 1927. Each year, the Trustees of the College select a person who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership to support the industry and professional education.
Dr. Barton joined The College as President and CEO in 2003 and is credited for having transformed the institution from one that was near financial collapse into a formidable institution of learning with over 27,000 students enrolled annually. A new Ph.D. in Financial Planning and Retirement was launched in 2011, and The College is completing a $50 million Campaign to fund new centers of research into insurance, ethics and the financial security of women.
Members of The President's Circle of The College are invited to join in this salute to Dr. Barton who retired as President and was named Chancellor earlier this year. More information is available from Rana McNamara at 610.526.1323.
