Stillwater softball struggles in opener against Broken Arrow

For the most part, Stillwater (0-1, 0-1) held its own, but a five-run second inning proved too much to overcome as the Lady Pioneers fell 9-4 in the season opener.

The second inning shifted momentum in the Lady Tigers (1-0, 1-0) favor for good. Junior
Phares walked and hit a batter with the bases loaded to put Broken Arrow up 3-1. Senior catcher
"All the errors were mental," Randolph said. "It's not that we aren't capable of it. We're young and very talented group of kids."
In the third, Phares was relieved by
"She has a way of keeping the batters off balance," Linsenmeyer said. "We like that. We made that happen quicker than we planned, but she did a great job."
The Lady Pioneers weren't able to get the timely hits, they had base runners in six of the seven innings. In the seventh, Stillwater scored three runs, with two coming on a RBI double by Randolph and an error by Broken Arrow's right fielder
Linsenmeyer said she liked her team's approach at the plate.
"That was an area that I was a little bit concerned about," Linsenmeyer said. "We did a quality job hitting the ball a little better as the game went along."
Stillwater suffered some injuries. In the sixth inning on a stolen base attempt, shortstop
"Over the summer (Fluty) dislocated one of her fingers," Linsenmeyer said. "(The ball) hit that same finger. It was more of a precautionary."
