This development will destroy many acres of farmland that once grew some of the best produce in the county, as anyone who ever ate Funk's strawberries or Purple Delight corn will attest. The development will be the sprawling type seen continuously eating away

Anyone following the career of this passionate preservationist couldn't imagine his land would ever be sold out for development. It is a shame that the actions of a few will taint the legacy of
What future inspiration is there when the legacy of the leader of the movement is, "Do as I say, not as I do"?

I find it interesting that our local right-wing state representatives want to limit the rights of a business when it comes to guns.
As I understand their stance, a business has the right to spend unlimited funds to support political causes and candidates favorable to them. Yet working people shouldn't have the right to organize through their union to do the same.
Businesses have the right to impose their religious views on workers through health care insurance. Yet workers don't have the right to make health care decisions based on their own deeply held religious or personal beliefs.
But when a business, due to those same deeply held beliefs, bans employees from bringing firearms onto company property, then it has crossed the line?
I never knew the amendments to the Constitution started and ended with the misinterpretation of the Second Amendment endorsed by the
Or is this just another case of tea party hypocrisy?
As I read the article in Tuesday's newspaper about House Bill 2243 - making it illegal to bar employees from having guns and ammunition locked in their vehicles on company property - I was amazed at the selfish reason for wanting the law.
Here we have state Rep.
As he said, "I don't think it is fair to ask individuals to check their constitutional rights at the door." But the Second Amendment does not say anything about the right of an employee to take weapons onto private property.
Republicans have been bragging for years about being on the side of the small employer. Most of these employers recognize that their employees want to feel safe in the work environment, which should include all areas of the employers' property.
When the company I worked for instituted a weapons ban on company property, there was overwhelming support from the employees for the ban and for their safety.
Most employers also ban fighting, discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying and smoking. Are we to assume having guns in our cars trumps these other bans?
Reps. Cutler,
It appears to be merely an attempt to get a better grade from the

If parents are going to deprive their children of quality literature because of the "racy" content of Green's novels, then perhaps they should open their eyes to what their children are exposed to on a daily basis in school and on TV. The concerns these parents have are ludicrous given the times. Middle- and high-school students hear curse words in the hallway and on the bus.
As far as the sexual content presented in the books, it is not graphic by any means. Green is not authoring the erotic novels that parents are reading. He depicts realistic experiences of young adults. Parents are just ignorant if they think their kids aren't aware of the types of situations Green writes about.
Instead of trying to censor what their kids are reading, perhaps parents should face the reality of the times and just be happy that their children are picking up a book instead of an iPad.
Green is a literary genius who is bringing quality literature to young adults, and he does not deserve this unnecessary, ignorant slander from parents.
