LumberKings score eight late in 11-3 win

Aug. 02--BURLINGTON -- BURLINGTON -- First, it was an opossum that led to the Clinton LumberKings to victory this week. On Friday, it may have been the rain.

Clinton (46-62) scored eight runs in a 11-3 win over the Burlington Bees (57-52) following a rain delay that halted the game for 70 minutes.

The rain delay did not help the Bees, as Burlington committed four errors in the final two innings leading to the eight runs that the LumberKings tallied. All eight runs were unearned.

Brett Thomas led off the ninth inning on an Erick Salcedo error, then Isaiah Yates hit a single to advance Thomas. Andy Peterson hit a sacrifice fly that advanced Thomas to third base with one out.

Bees second baseman then booted an Aaron Barbosa ground ball that scored Thomas and sent Yates to third and Barbosa to second base.

Yates and Barbosa scored on a Jack Reinheimer single to left field; Chantz Mack then brought in Reinheimer on a scorching double that sailed to the right field wall at Community Field.

Justin Seager then reeled in Mack on a single to left field. Marcus Littlewood hit an infield pop out to end the inning before Clinton added five insurance runs.

Yates started the 3-run rally in the eighth inning by reaching on an error. Barbosa singled on a squeeze play that scored Martin Peguero. However, Bees third baseman Ryan Dalton made a bad throw, allowing Peterson (who reached on a fielder's choice) to score as well. Barbosa ended up on third base, where he later scored on a Mack single.

Clinton also scored a run apiece in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Yates brought in Littlewood with an RBI double; in the seventh, Mack had another RBI single that scored Barbosa.

Of the 15 LumberKings hits, two of them were for extra bases.

Tyler Herb picked up his first win as a LumberKing in relief. He came in for the final three innings behind starter Carlos Misell, who allowed three runs on five hits in six innings of work.
