UC Irvine Extension Announces New Legal Risk Management Specialized Studies Program

Legal Risk Management Specialized Studies Program participants will learn to identify the main legal risks facing organizations today, examine prevailing risk management principles and guidelines, identify and analyze significant risks, create strategies to mitigate risks and monitor the effectiveness of existing risk management efforts.
The four courses offered include:
- "Fundamentals of Administrative Law" – (
Sept. 22 to Dec. 12 from6:30 to 9:30 p.m. ) will teach participants to examine rules and regulations from local, state and federal agencies, explain political controls over agency action, describe the informal administrative process, analyze rules and rulemaking procedures and identify the critical elements in the obtaining of judicial review. - "Corporate Regulatory Compliance" – (
Sept. 22 to Dec. 12 from 6:30 –9:30 p.m. ) examines regulatory compliance and risk management issues impacting organizations. Other topics include director roles and responsibilities, board and management fiduciary duties, director and executive liability and indemnification agreements and the implementation of risk management and compliance programs. - "Contract Risk Management" – (
Winter Quarter ) analyzes contract risks from the liability avoidance perspective. This includes standard terms and conditions addressing important protective elements to a given organization, such as mutual indemnification, insurance requirements, additional insured entities and liability risks. - "Risk Management for Entrepreneur" – (
Winter Quarter ) examines the legal issues facing entrepreneurs and the risk of noncompliance with the law. Identification of significant risks, prioritization of risks, implementation of strategies to mitigate risks, and efficient monitoring of legal risks will be discussed.
