"With this amount of square footage, we will be able to operate the temporary library and use part of the space for storage," Hastler said Tuesday, explaining they need storage space for furnishings and materials coming from the old building.
Assuming contracts for work on the new library are approved by the county in September as planned, Hastler said construction should take 12 to 18 months.
The 27-year-old existing building will be demolished and the new building constructed in its place, she said.
A design contract for the new library was awarded last August. At the time, library officials said the design process would take about a year and a groundbreaking for the new building would occur in late fall 2014.
The new library will be approximately 15,000 square feet on two floors, not quite twice as much area as the existing 8,400-square-foot building.
