Bulldogs capitalize on Littleton errors to move on in Legion B state tourney

The Bulldogs reaped the benefits of being hit by a pitch, then scoring a pair of runs on a trio of errors to top the Littleton Lions 7-5 in the first round of the Legion B baseball state tournament.

"Even with all that bad stuff going on and things not falling our way, they still stuck in there and won the baseball game," he said. "I'm very proud of them for doing that."
With the win, the Bulldogs (26-9) will face a familiar foe,
After tying the game with a hit batter in the top of the sixth, the Lions committed four errors in the top of the seventh, three of which led directly to the go-ahead runs to break a 5-5 tie.
With two outs,
"It felt great," Schones said of the game-winning moment. "I'll be honest with you though, I didn't see (the play). I just had my head down and I ran, because I saw that's what Carson did. It worked out for him. I had a pretty tough game (defensively) at third base. So, I figured that was the least I could do."
One at-bat later,
Arguably the biggest play of the game for the Bulldogs also transpired without all the fanfare that accompanies, say, a basehit.
With bases loaded and two outs in the top of the sixth, University tied the game at 5 in one of the least likely of ways.

Considering the circumstances, Wilcox wasn't about to flee out of the way when he saw that pitch coming right toward him.
"You've got to do what you've got to do for the team," he said. "If it means getting hit by a ball, I'll take it. It's better than striking out or just wasting an at-bat."
Of course, being hit by that pitch felt much better mentally and emotionally than it did physically.
"Of course, I got hit, so it didn't feel all that good on my body," Wilcox said. "But, in my mind, it was a good feeling."
