The town board met in closed session Monday and interviewed Pittman before making its decision in open session. The town received 50 applications for the post and narrowed down the selection to eight candidates who were interviewed by Mayor LuHarvey Lewis, Lambert and town Commissioner
"This person will be trained and eventually we will want this person to move up," said Lambert who told all the applicants that the position included advancement, possibly, to the role as town clerk and finance officer.
"Someday before I'll retire, we'll be grooming her to be the town clerk and finance officer," Lambert said. "We want this person to work into my position."

The amount is small in comparison to the town's annual budget and no loss is expected because of the town's blanket bond, an insurance contract that provides coverage for losses resulting from employee theft, Tabb told the board.
Lambert was alerted to the problem after customers started visiting town hall and complaining about incorrect bills. She researched and reported the problem to the mayor and police chief, who acted quickly, Tabb said. Tabb complimented Lambert and town officials for effectively handling the problem.
