District 23 ends up with nice surprise

"There are a lot of 'ifs' at the moment," Cunningham told the board in her treasurer's report for June. "The numbers change all the time as the bills come in, and this is just an estimated balance."
Still, the carryover the district will take into FY '14-15 will be dramatically more than school administrators had predicted at the start of the past fiscal year.

During the past five years, the district also cut expenses by dropping some elective courses at the high school and eliminating some teaching and non-certified personnel.

Terry said, "We need to get back to our academic level before we reinstate classes and offer some more electives at the high school. If the (General Fund carryover growth) continues for the next two years, we can start adding classes."
