New Pendleton flood maps lead to confusion

McClintick said the change came to his attention when some of homeowners said they received letters from their mortgage companies advising them that they needed flood insurance.
McClintick said the change didn't make sense to him or the homeowners after looking at the maps. The houses have always been close to the flood zone requiring insurance but have never been ruled as being inside the zone.
"It seems to be a gray area right now," McClintick said. "Some of the houses have been changed but the maps don't reflect that change. It's a little confusing."

If it is a mistake on the DNR's part, it could be an expensive one for the homeowners. Because of the zoning changes, the homeowners will be required to buy flood insurance. McClintick said flood insurance could cost as much as
"That seems to be the main concern from the homeowners at this point," he said.
He said the DNR is working to determine whether or not a mistake was made with aerial photos. Even a few feet of difference between the old map and the new one could have caused the change.
"Some of the lines don't appear to be lining up quite right from what I can tell," McClintick said.
So far, he said only a couple homeowners have contacted him. So some of the houses on the same street might not have been changed, leading him to believe the change could be a mistake.
