Why are you running for office? I wish to continue as your PUD commissioner. I am proud to say I am locally grown and locally raised. I feel I have more detailed knowledge and experience on the pressing issues facing Skagit PUD No. 1. My track record, my previous 29-plus years as your PUD commissioner and my continuing goal to maintain the level of service to which our customers are accustomed makes me the best candidate for the job. I have always been mindful of the value of safe, affordable, quality water for my friends and family as well as your friends and family. Why should voters choose you? I am a leader who has the experience, background and dedication to find solutions to our most pressing issues.
The first is to steward our water resources. Conserving, preserving and improving our water delivery systems are critical to our region's vitality. We also must ensure fiscal responsibility of the PUD so that there are no unnecessary rate increases. I will work to improve transparency in decision-making. Decisions should be made in an open and honest way. PUD meetings should be recorded to keep the public informed and the commission accountable to those who elect them.
As a dedicated volunteer throughout the region for more than a decade, I have built strong relationships with fellow leaders -- in business, agriculture, the environment and in real estate. My background includes a variety of experiences here in the valley as a business owner, farmer, ag consultant and father. I am committed to making good decisions that will ensure an adequate quantity and quality water supply for years to come.
What is the single biggest issue facing the winning candidate?
There are and will be issues that are facing the PUD board. I will do my best to evaluate those issues and help make good choices.
How will you address it? Issues will be dealt with careful analysis. Learning about the problem and then making good decisions on a plan of action.
