The U.S. leads the pack in the percentage of older adults who have trouble paying their medical bills.
July 12--After falling behind early, the Waverly Post 142 Shockers saw their bats come alive as they defeated the Athens Post 21 Gunners 9-4 in the final game of the regular season.
"I was very pleased with our effort tonight," Shockers coach Jonathon Teeters said.
The Gunners were able to get two runs in the first inning off of Shocker ace Pierce Knisley, but Waverly would respond in the third and fourth innings. The Shockers would score seven runs in the two-inning span to grab the lead for good, and would also add two insurance runs in the ninth inning.
Brady Knittel would lead the way offensively for Post 142, going 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI on the day. Dylan Shockley would add two RBI on his 2-for-3 effort. Tyler Nartker doubled in a run, and Zack Jordan would also drive in a run on a 2-for-4 day from the plate.
Knisley was just one of five pitchers that Teeters would use on the day.
"I wanted to get several guys innings to tune up for district tournament play," he said. "Our pitchers were as focused as they've been all year. Their mentality when they were out there was where it needed to be."
Adam Cooper would pick up the win for the Shockers to make him 2-0 on the season. He would pitch two innings while giving up just a single hit. Shocker pitchers would combine to strike out six batters throughout the game while allowing five walks and eight hits.
With the regular season complete, the Shockers will now turn their attention to post-season play. They'll play Yeager Post 199 at the VA in Chillicothe in the first round of the District Tournament.
"We're ready to get at it on Monday," Teeters said
