Symposium will Tackle Issues Affecting Area's Senior Population

LYNCHBURG, Va., July 3 -- Liberty University issued the following news release:

Liberty University'sJerry Falwell Library and the Center for Professional & Continuing Education will host a Senior Symposium in the Terrace Level Conference Room of the library on July 28-Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. The theme for the event is "Practical Applications for Senior Living," and will include presentations on technological literacy, caregivers of family members, reverse mortgages, estate planning, and the U.S. in biblical prophecy. Refreshments will be served each day, except on Friday, Aug. 1, when attendees will have the opportunity to visit either the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford or the Museum of the Confederacy in Appomattox. Participants will return for lunch at noon followed by a tour of the new Runk and Pratt Liberty Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center on Liberty Mountain.

"The Senior Symposium is a wonderful opportunity for local seniors to hear engaging speakers on topics relevant to them, to explore local historical sites, and to meet other seniors from the community," said Rachel Schwedt, the library's associate dean of Research and Customer Service."

Monday, July 28: Authors and biblical experts Dr. Harold Wilmington, dean of Liberty University'sWilmington School of the Bible, and Dr. Elmer Towns, a vice president and co-founder of Liberty

Tuesday, July 29: Social media, online safety, and technology experts Joshua Waltman, online research assistant at the Jerry Falwell Library; Shelley Oakley, Jerry Falwell Library curriculum librarian; and representatives from Best Buy

Wednesday, July 30: Caregiving experts Barbara Sherman, director of Individualized Programs of Study at Liberty, and Jessica Daley, research assistance librarian, as well as reverse mortgage expert Larry Monticeno and Earl Sargeant, Liberty's director of estate planning

Thursday, July 31: Local authors and storytellers Delanie Stephenson, Dr. Gwen Ramsey, and Dr. James W. Morrison
