It's debatable if the fiduciary standard is 'higher' than suitability. But the better question might be, who's holding the bar?
June 29--When it comes to dealing with water or fire damage, you have options. You could fix the issues yourself or you could let the folks at First Response Restoration take care of you.
"We're a full-service water mitigation, fire and smoke damage repair business," office manager Michael Jones said. "We are in remodeling and repair, kind of like a construction company, but we do a lot of mitigation and restructuring.
"If you have a leak, like a water tank busts, our water tanks come out there and dry it up. We reverse the damage and stop any further damage from happening until your insurance adjuster can get out there and take a look at it. We fix everything back to normal after that."
First Response Restoration has offices in Clarksburg, Hurricane, and now Beckley. The Beckley office had its ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday.
"First Response has been in the Hurricane area for five years," Jones said. "Just this past year we opened offices around the state.
"We have three offices in the state, so we're a locally owned and operated business. Our motto is 'One call does it all.' When we take a job, we do it from start to finish. We don't want you to have to call several contractors."
First Response Restoration has the tools needed to get everything back to normal with no fuss on your part, Jones said.
"We use extraction units," he said. "They are high-powered suction tools that will not only get the carpet dried up, but it will also dry the padding and the floor below. A lot of people will just try to dry it up with a Shop-Vac or something like that.
"We have our extraction van that pulls the water out and puts it in a tank that you don't have to constantly empty like you would with a bucket. We have commercial dehumidification. We have specialized drying equipment like heavy-duty, air-moving fans."
With fire damage, it's more about removing the charred wood and sealing the smell, Jones said.
"We have chemicals that clean out the musty smell associated with water damage," he said. "Those chemicals can also remove the smoke smell associated with fire damage.
"We'll clean up the char and then we coat everything in a good fire-sealant before everything is rebuilt. You don't want to keep that smoke smell around."
First Response Restoration handles jobs 24 hours a day, but the office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
First Response Restoration is at 1514 S. Kanawha St. For more information about the business or to schedule repairs, call 304-894-8534.
