"It's ironic that my first signing would be at Western," Dupin said.
His first 10 years working in the entertainment field would have been easier had he gone to college and studied business, he said.
Just when his career was getting off the ground in 2011, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer during an exam required by his new insurance company. What happened next provided fodder for this book.
His writings are more humorous than tragic, he said. Since readers will know from the title that he beat cancer, they can enjoy the funny things he talks about in the book.

"There's no suspense about how the book ends; the title sort of gives it away," DuPin said. "It's the little surprises along the way that I think will have readers hooked and will give some people hope and a few laughs."
Some of DuPin's friends have read 'The Trans Am Diaries" and have given their approval.
