Horsnyder Pharmacy under new ownership

"We fell in love with it," he said.

In the 1990s, seeing other drugstores stock food and beverages, Leal decided to do more in home health care, based on what he had read in magazines and journals.
His wife left her job as a nurse at
Both Leal and his wife attended schools to learn how to run these new aspects of the business.
"Longs came to me and wanted me to train their staff," Leal said. "They can't offer the service."
When a customer with crutches struggled to open the door at Horsnyder, Leal, who uses a cane, paused and opened it for the younger man.

He recalled being pitched when point-of-sale technology came out, surprised it would take two employees to maintain inventory control.
Quesenberry said she installed a newer model about six years ago.
"They have bar codes you scan," she said. "You don't have to enter anything."
Leal said his billing department has grown, adding, "it pays for itself."
When he and his wife moved to
Nearly 25 people work at Horsnyder; all but Tim are staying on.
Quesenberry, whose father was a pharmacist in

Quesenberry has about 30 employees, and has expanded into supplies and medical equipment, catering to those in long-term care.
She fills prescriptions for safety-net clinic patients, which she said offers a better fee arrangement, and expects more customers as health insurance expands.
She plans to give the Horsnyder store a face-lift and she's looking forward to her daughter,
