Commerce Bank replacing Grove branch with high-tech prototype

Commerce chose to build a new branch in the Grove neighborhood because of new business activity nearby, including an Ikea furniture store that's slated to open at Vandeventer and Forest Park avenues next year, he said.
"We hope we can help the redevelopment in the area," Kemper said.
Citing new restaurants and businesses that have opened recently in the Grove, Mayor Slay said Commerce's new branch will help revitalization efforts that are under way.
"This is really going to increase the momentum in this neighborhood," Slay said at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Commerce is building the new branch on 1.5 acres and plans to sell the remaining 4.5 acres it owns at the corner to one or more new redevelopers.
"We have a lot of interest" from prospective owners, Collins said.
