What mattered most, though, was he received a strong performance from his starter, two shutout innings from his reliever and enough offense to pull out a 6-3 victory over the Eagles.
"I think our pitchers definitely pounded the zone and did really well," Lively said. "Unfortunately, I don't think we played up to our abilities on the defensive side of the ball."
Arundel did commit a pair of errors and a wild pitch that led to a two-run fourth inning for the Eagles. Sharpe, who pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, got
Sharpe sent the Eagles down in order in the fifth and left after putting the first two hitters on in the sixth. He gave up five hits, struck out three, walked one and hit a batter.
"I feel like I threw well and worked the strike zone pretty well," said Sharpe, who topped out at 85 with his fastball. "I just pounded the zone and mixed up my pitches."
Arundel (8-0) got the first two runners on in the third, but a double play put a temporary hold on a big inning.
"I just knew he was sleeping on me because I had (struck out) before," Martin said. "He threw me a fastball right down the middle."
The Eagles got back in the game in the fourth with a little help from the Wildcats.
The Wildcats added a run in the fifth when Martin got in a rundown long enough to allow Gall to score from third to make it 5- 2.
The Eagles put the first two on in the sixth, prompting Lively to bring in
"If we get that squeeze down, it's a 5-4 game and we're a big swing away from tying it up," Northeast coach
Arundel added an insurance run in the sixth when Hinely grounded into a double play with the bases loaded. Armed with a three-run lead, Hinely issued a one-out walk to Ryan in the seventh, but retired the last two to end the game.
Sharpe and Gall each had a pair of hits for the Wildcats, who will face North County on Thursday before traveling to Chesapeake on Friday.
"These back-to-back-to-back days are tough," Lively said. "We're very fortunate because we're pretty solid with pitching. We have some guys that can throw."
Leathers went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in a pair for the Eagles.
"We've yet to really play a complete game," Bolling said. "I'm OK where we are and I think we're going to be fine."
