Upbringing encourages financial adviser to give back to community

Ms. Barrows' desire to serve developed further during high school as she went on domestic service trips to
"(Food stamps) should be reserved for the people who genuinely need them, and I am capable of getting a job that will keep me above the poverty level," Ms. Barrows said. "It would be a burden on taxpayers, and it is not fair for those who need them."
After graduating and moving back home, she broke down crying to her parents about "not having a future." Her mother suggested that she list everything she did and did not want in a career. After doing so, Ms. Barrows realized she was meant to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a financial professional. A few months later, she landed a job with
She said she was happy with the job because she enjoyed doing something different every day and having frequent interaction with others.
"At the end of the day, I felt good, and I learned so much about myself and others," Ms. Barrows said.
Returned to area
She worked with Karr Barth for a year before moving to
"Having been away for five years, it is great to see my parents every day," Ms. Barrows said.
She also enjoys working with her office manager,
"I really value the trust they put in me," she said.
Other involvements
Ms. Barrows' dedication to helping others does not end when she clocks out at the end of the workday. She fills her spare time working with the Leadership Lackawanna board, where she supports programs, organizes fundraising, sits on committees that support the leadership classes and spreads the word about the program. She said what she values most about the program is how it helps diverse groups in the area learn new things about themselves.

When not working or helping the community, Ms. Barrows also is preparing to become a certified financial planner. Studying for this certification takes up a great deal of her spare time, but she still finds opportunities to train for a half-marathon, see her boyfriend, follow her favorite cooking blogs and bake with her family. Baking is a tradition with her grandmother,
"Every Christmas, we make homemade kolachi, which is so special to me," Ms. Barrows said. "It is a great way to spend the morning and afternoon."
