Hill sharp on the mound as Calallen baseball dispatches rival G-P

After surviving a bases-loaded, no-outs jam by allowing only one run, Hill settled into a neatly packaged nine-strikeout performance. His teammates were able to piece together enough offense to beat G-P 6-1 at Steve Chapman Field.
"I just settled down a little bit," said Hill, who improved to 4-0 with the 98-pitch effort. "Instead of trying to blow it by them and strike them out all the time, I let the defense work and throw strikes."

"I gave up two hits and a walk. Usually I come out in the first inning and it's not like that," Hill said. "But you've got to make adjustments and bear down and get them out."
"Innings like that don't come very often against Calallen," said coach
"But again, it comes down to defense, man, and fundamentals. If you don't have a good, solid defense behind your pitcher you're going to struggle against a lineup like that."
The defensive struggles began in the bottom of the first for G-P.
That was enough support for Hill, who set down 13 of the final 15 G-P batters he faced, aiding his cause by turning a sixth-inning double play by snaring

"It's not like that we're not working at it. They're working hard. It just didn't happen. Sometimes we're hot and sometimes we're not. That's baseball."
