Vick donates thousands of pounds of sweet potatoes to eligible Wilson households and nonprofits each year, Smith said.
Vick and his family have been giving the potatoes since the early 1980s.
Last year alone, he donated more than 12 tons of sweet potatoes. He makes sure they are cleaned and packaged for delivery, Smith said. About 4,000 families are helped each year with his donations.

Vick told the crowd that as he came up he saw a lot of luxury cars in the parking lot and asked attendees to remember those who need their assistance.
