March 01--An employee of a Golden Gate insurance company was arrested Friday after he admitted to altering customers' accounts and stealing more than $1,200.
Geoffrey Adam Abbott, 31, of the 3100 block of La Costa Circle, East Naples, faces felony grand theft and fraud charges.
The owner of the insurance agency told Collier County sheriff's investigators that he became suspicious when he started getting complaints from customers who were receiving overdue notices even after they had stopped in the office to make cash payments. The owner ran a transaction history and found that Abbott had been deleting cash payments from their computer.
In total, Abbott is accused of pocketing $1,257 by altering the accounts of nine customers in December. Abbott met with deputies on Friday and admitted to stealing the money, reports said.
