Feb. 01--NORMAL -- A Bloomington man has been arrested on a warrant charging him with arson and defrauding an insurance company stemming from a July 2011 fire.

Normal police said Matthew S. Schappaugh, 34, was arrested Thursday in connection with a July 15, 2011, fire that caused $50,000 damage to a home in the 1000 block of North Oak Street in Normal. At the time, fire officials said the rental property was being remodeled between tenants. No one was in the residence at the time of the fire.

Bloomington firefighters assisted.

Normal police, Normal fire investigators and members of the Illinois Fire Marshal's office and the McLean County State's Attorneys office assisted with the investigation.

Schappaugh was in McLean County jail in lieu of posting $5,000.
