ROCHESTER, Mich., Dec. 6 -- Oakland University issued the following news release:

In the midst of an uncertain economy, more people are turning to seasoned professionals to help manage their financial affairs. To address this growing need, Oakland University is offering a new Executive Program that allows experienced financial professionals to obtain a Certificate in Personal Financial Planning in just one year.

Administered through OU's Professional and Continuing Education unit, the year-long program is a blend of instructor-led and online formats. Courses will be offered on an eight week basis. Six months of coursework and two weeks for individualized instructor-facilitated individualized remediation through scheduled faculty office hours. In addition, during the two weeks, a minimum of two required topic-specific financial planning practice management webinars will be presented.

Participants are required to complete six, four-week courses, all of which are required to sit for the CFP Examination, along with the CFP Exam Review. To be most successful, students are encouraged to use the following program sequence: Income Tax, Risk Management, Investments, Retirement, Estate Planning, and Financial Plan Development Course.

The course runs from February 2014 - February 2015 with the exam scheduled for March 2015. Prospective applicants must have a bachelor's degree and three years of experience in financial planning. For additional information, visit the website, or contact Program Director Lori Crose at (248) 370-4861 or e-mail OUpace@oakland.edu.

Oakland's Certificate Program in Personal Financial Planning is registered with the CFP Board of Standards in Washington, D.C. and meets the standards set by the CFP(TM) Board. OU's program was one of the first in the country to be registered by the CFP(TM) Board. Participants who complete the OU program are eligible to sit for the CFP Board Examination.

In addition, the Personal and Financial Planning Program partners with Keir Educational Resources to offer a four-day instructor-led exam review. All individuals who meet the initial educational requirements of the CFP(TM) Board can register for this comprehensive exam review. Registration is now open. Participants can go to oakland.edu/PACE where the financial planning program is listed under the Business tab.
