Douglass said although it was less money than the district lost, the board seemed to be pleased to receive a settlement.
"At one point we were wondering if we'd get any money back," Douglass said. "As the lawsuit drug along and time lapsed, people were losing faith anything positive would come.
"Everyone was pleased to see a return."
It has not yet been determine how the money will be distributed, Douglass said. The directed money will help offset the cost of insurance for the employees, but particulars are still being hammered out.
Douglass said the school board talked at the board meeting Tuesday and there was discussion of premium holidays that might be offered to the staff in the near future so teachers are seeing a return. "Beyond that it will be reserved to help in the cost of insurance."
"If operated like a self insured trust and we paid for the administrative costs and our health costs and if there was a balance, the balance could come back to the school districts in the form of premium holidays from the pool of money in your account," Walker said.

"It is disconcerting to see these two organizations, the ISTA and NEA, which were trusted by these school corporations, intentionally mishandle education dollars that should have been benefiting our local schools, students, teachers and administrators."

"It's disheartening to hear that these two organizations, ISTA and NEA, intentionally mismanaged dollars that should have gone directly toward benefitting our students, teachers and administrators," Lehe said in a statement. "Hoosiers place a high value on quality education, and I know Delphi schools will be pleased to see at least a portion of the funds returned."
Friend and Lehe commended Lawson on her "due diligence" and "great service" to the schools.
