City Council to consider $45,000 settlement in fatal police shooting

The district attorney's office found that Dixon's shooting was justified and that Dixon pointed the gun directly at an officer after being ordered to drop the weapon.
As with all city legal settlements, the settlement is being offered "due to the uncertainty and risk" of losing the case at trial, according to city documents. The same documents indicate that the settlement is not an admission of liability on the part of the city.
The settlement will be paid from the city's self-insurance fund, through the issuance of general obligation bonds.
