Drugs and gun taken off streets by sheriff's department [News-Democrat & Leader, Russellville, Ky.]

Nov. 07--A recent traffic stop conducted by Logan County Sheriff Wallace Whittaker secured a large amount of marijuana, along with a Hi Point 9 mm handgun.

According to a police report, Whittaker stopped 21-year-old Glennis E. Ligon, of Russellville on Friday, Oct. 25 at 5:30 p.m. on Hopkinsville Road. Ligon was driving a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis.

After stopping Ligon, the sheriff found that Ligon did not have a valid operator licence. This prompted Whittaker to investigate further. Through the investigation, the sheriff located a handgun underneath the driver's seat, along with a large amount of marijuana and digital scales.

Whittaker found Ligon to be in possession of more marijuana and prescription narcotics.

Ligon was arrested and charged with No Operators-Moped License; Trafficking in Marijuana (less than 8 oz.), 1st offense; Possession of Marijuana; Possession of A Controlled Substance, 3rd; Prescription Controlled Substance not in proper Container, 1st offense; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Sheriff Whittaker was assisted by K-9 Sgt. Clint Wright, deputy Kyler Harvey and the Russellville Police Department.

(ASTERISK) Another arrest was made by the Logan County Sheriff's Department on Thursday, Oct. 31, at approximately 8:12 p.m.

According to reports, the sheriff's department received a call of a domestic in progress at 476 Carpenter Lane in Russellville. Prior to deputies arrival, deputies were advised that the perpetrator, Michael B. Johnson, 37, had left the residence intoxicated in a green 1998 Ford F150.

Deputies located the vehicle and Johnson was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs/etc. .08 (Aggravated Circumstances), 1st offense; Possession of an Open Alcoholic Container in a Motor Vehicle; Failure to Notify of Address Change to the Department of Transportation; Failure to Produce Insurance card; Possession of a Controlled Substance, 1st degree (Methamphetamine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Deputy Kyler Harvey was the arresting officer and was assisted by Sgt. Clint Wright.
