WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 -- Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-N.C. (2nd CD), issued the following news release:
Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) released the following statement after the release of a new report by the Obama administration this morning. The announcement from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) shows that health insurance rates under Obamacare are expected to triple for women and quadruple for men in North Carolina:
"With less than a week to go before Obamacare is implemented, the Obama administration has handed North Carolinians a devastating announcement.
Thanks to this terrible law, men and women across the state will now see their insurance premiums jump to unprecedented levels. For struggling families, this means they will have to pay three to four times more for their health insurance - all because of this ill-conceived assault on our health care system. This law has to go. The American people are paying the price for Washington's quest to mandate their lives and rob their incomes.
The people of North Carolina sent me here to stop Obamacare - and I intend to do just that."
Forbesmagazine reported on this morning's announcement by HHS where they noted that average individual market insurance premiums will increase nationwide by 99% for men and 62% for women. But nowhere will the pain be felt more acutely than North Carolina, where individual-market rates are expected to triple for women and quadruple for men.
