ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A federal judge has sentenced an upstate New York woman to more than two years in prison and found her jointly responsible with others for $1.4 million in restitution for staging a crash and making fraudulent insurance claims.
Norman Mordue has also ordered 54-year-old
Cynthia Morgan of Utica, who pleaded guilty last August to a conspiracy charge, to three years' post-release supervision.
Authorities say Morgan admitted that she, along with her husband and three other men, staged a 2006 crash in Utica where a rental truck hit a van. She claimed to be injured, collecting $108,000 under an insurer's disability policy and a $30,000 payment to settle a civil lawsuit.
