Columbus, OH (PRWEB) January 18, 2013
A total of 33 South Carolina legislators and staff attended the “Insurance 101” seminar hosted by The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation on January 17. The seminar, held in Columbia, S.C., provided a non-partisan overview of important insurance and risk management concepts.
“We’re proud to be a part of this collaboration between the Department of Insurance and the General Assembly to examine issues important to our constituents,” said State Representative Bill Sandifer, chairman of the House Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee.
The seminar was taught by Faith R. Neale, PhD, associate professor of risk management and insurance at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Belk College of Business. South Carolina Department of Insurance Director Raymond G. Farmer noted the value of the presentation. “Dr. Neale provided good subject matter expertise on insurance concepts that I’m confident will be of great benefit to our lawmakers,” he said.
The Griffith Foundation relies on charitable contributions for support of its mission to engage public policymakers and improve understanding of key insurance and risk management information and trends. “Our legislators’ decisions can have a significant impact on the insurance marketplace,” said Melissa Wheeler, director of public policymaker education for The Griffith Foundation. “We welcome the opportunity to provide this information to lawmakers, in the hopes that it will strengthen their ability to evaluate the policy proposals they consider.”
