WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 -- There was one key vote in the House this week. In addition, the House and Senate acted on the following legislation that did not gain a roll-call vote. The Senate passed a bill (H.R. 41), sponsored by Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., to temporarily increase the Federal Emergency Management Agency's borrowing authority for carrying out the National Flood Insurance Program from $20.725 billion to $30.425 billion.
The House and Senate, in a joint session, counted the electoral votes for President and Vice President, with Barack Obama receiving 332 votes and Mitt Romney receiving 206 votes for President, and Joseph Biden receiving 332 votes and Paul Ryan receiving 206 votes for Vice President.

FLOOD INSURANCE: The House has passed a bill (H.R. 41), sponsored by Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., to temporarily increase the Federal Emergency Management Agency's borrowing authority for carrying out the
National Flood Insurance Program from $20.725 billion to $30.425 billion. Garrett said the increase "is really vital to ensure that the homeowners in my state of New Jersey, as well as in New York and Connecticut and any other affected areas, will be able to continue to have their contractual flood insurance policies with the NFIP honored" after Superstorm Sandy. The vote, on Jan. 4, was 354 yeas to 67 nays.
