Hurricane Season: Tips For Lower Home Insurance

PR Web

Panama City Beach, FL (PRWEB) June 07, 2012

A Smart Move Home Inspection meticulously combs through Florida Panhandle houses, pools and spas searching for defects, and safety hazards that may hinder homeowners ability to finance, help in the decision process or use as a negotiating tool for purchasing. The company has cited many typical construction features that may qualify homeowners for lower insurance rates. A Smart Move Home Inspection wants to enlighten customers on money-saving features that their houses may already yield.

"Homeowners can take advantage of discounts on their homeowners insurance if they already have, any of the 8 specific, items in place in there homes," states Rick Ruddell of A Smart Move Home Inspection. He highlights "roof-to-wall" connections as an intelligent solution for hurricane-pelted Florida homes. Roof-to-wall connections anchor roof trusses to walls for reinforced resistance against the high winds of tropical storms and hurricanes.

Reinforced masonry may also allow for homeowner insurance discounts. Florida construction teams commonly use auxiliary building materials to strengthen brick and concrete exteriors against inclement weather. Reinforcements such as steel rods encourage homes to withstand compounded stress for many decades.

These items and others are on the "Wind Mitigation Report" inspection for homeowners insurance discounts. These inspections verify that a home has protection in place to withstand the effects of windstorms. Insurance companies offering home insurance in Florida are required to give these discounts if items are already in place. The roof geometry is another possible discount. Having a Hip roof or a properly braced Gable roof will give discounts as well. If you are planning on replacing your roof, some items for more discounts are having a secondary water resistant or sealed roof deck installed prior to the shingle attachment. Having the decking renailed with an 8D nail on what is known as a 6/6 pattern is a better discount.
