Grant helps build the next generation of business leaders
PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Standard Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Standard
Insurance Company (“The Standard”), has awarded a $10,000 grant to Young
Entrepreneurs Business Week (YEBW), a Salem, Oregon-based nonprofit.
Held each summer at Oregon State University, YEBW provides high school
students from across the state of Oregon and beyond a strong foundation
of skills and tools, inspiring them to develop and emulate the
entrepreneurial characteristics of ethical, financially savvy and
successful business professionals. Students form and manage a company,
write their own business plans and compete in a business simulation.
Adult volunteers provide mentorship, serving as company advisors. In
addition to business know-how, students come away with new skills, tools
and the confidence necessary to succeed in school, business and life.
“The Standard Charitable Foundation’s support of Young Entrepreneurs
Business Week illustrates a commitment to helping students appreciate
our free enterprise system and see what it takes to be successful in an
increasingly global marketplace,” said Maurissa Fisher, executive
director of YEBW. “If businesses are to remain competitive, it is
crucial that our future workforce have an understanding and appreciation
of the real world challenges facing the business community.”
Employees of The Standard serve as volunteers on the board of YEBW, as
company advisors and in other roles.
“The Standard Charitable Foundation is proud to support Young
Entrepreneurs Business Week, whose efforts foster learning and prepare
young people for careers in business,” said Greg Ness, president of The
Standard Charitable Foundation and chairman, president and CEO at The
Standard.
