Amerigroup ceo could hold role at wellpoint
Amerigroup Corp. CEO Jim Carlson is one of the leading candidates to become CEO of health insurer WellPoint Inc., the company that recently bought Amerigroup in a $4.9 billion merger, Bloomberg News reported last week.
Citing an unnamed source, Bloomberg said Carlson is among several finalists for the top job at Indianapolis-based WellPoint. He became CEO of Virginia Beach-based Amerigroup, now a wholly owned subsidiary of WellPoint, in 2007.

Contests seek apps to analyze education data
Virginia'sCenter for Innovative Technology and the state Department of Education are sponsoring competitions for high school students and the general public to develop software applications. The challenge is to come up with apps that use or analyze education data sets - on dropout rates or on-time graduation rates, for example - in creative ways.
The Apps4VA competitions will provide prizes of up to $5,000, and the deadline to apply is Jan. 31. Information on the competitions is available at www.apps4va.org.
