Norristown, PA (PRWEB) August 08, 2012

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on August 3rd a recent filing of a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the Estate of Brian Lorenzo, the deceased Philadelphia police officer killed in a head-on collision with an alleged drunk driver who had been drinking in a local tavern. The widow of Brian Lorenzo is suing the Benslam T.G.I. Friday's restaurant for serving the driver who caused the accident that ended her husband's life. In light of this recent incident, local Montgomery personal injury attorney expresses his support for stricter regulations on establishments serving alcohol.

The driver of the car that killed the police officer had allegedly been drinking many shots and beers in the tavern. Reports show that the individual allegedly was served at least six alcoholic drinks during his visit. The arrest record, Commonwealth v. John D. Leck - Philadelphia County Case Number MC-51-CR-0027868-2012, reported his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. The lawsuit, Lorenzo v. Carlson, et al. - Philadelphia County Case Number 120704658, alleges that the motorist was served alcohol in the tavern while he was visibly intoxicated.

John I. McMahon, Jr., a personal injury trial lawyer from Norristown commented how "many times these establishments that serve alcohol do not carry any liability insurance and are judgment proof." He elaborated that "Pennsylvania law allows sellers of alcoholic beverages to engage in their business while being uninsured and having no means of paying a claim...this results in a travesty of justice for the innocent victims of drunk drivers. Our legislators in Harrisburg need to address this injustice."
