LAUDERHILL, FL - State Representative Hazelle Rogers (D-Lauderhill) issued the following statement regarding Citizens Insurance:

"As a new hurricane season begins, we are reminded of the importance of Floridians having adequate property insurance to protect their homes and families. I will continue to fight against unnecessary property insurance rate increases, especially for customers of the state-run Citizens Property Insurance Corp. Just as importantly, I believe the Legislature can, and should, ease Florida's reliance on the so-calledinsurer of last resort. Any changes to Citizens Insurance Corp. should be made with care.

"Floridians must be able to access affordable coverage from insurers with guaranteed financial backing and those companies cannot be allowed to non-renew customers as merely a method for increasing premiums.

"While reforms are needed to our state's insurance market, I believe any changes should be made in a fair, smart and sound manner."
